A quick comment:     Back to G-1: Review D-VII      Main Page

I have always wanted Cyclonus since he was one of my favorite season 3 characters.  Also, he'll be perfect next to my Ultra Magnus figure after all they both were rival to one another in the cartoon.  I got both MISB Wreck-Gar and MISB Cyclonus on Aug. XX, Mmvii from Ebay which cost me ($CLXXX) $CCC including.

Original G1 Cyclonus Bio:

Cyclonus is huge and emotionless air warrior.  he has vast resources of power and can draw strength in direct proportion to his need.  Cyclonus is equipped with nuclear-powered turbine engines which enable him to reach speeds greater than Mach 2.  In robot mode, he carries an oxidating laser that fused an enemy robot's internal mechanism.  Cyclonus has no weaknesses and on interests other than conquest.

R-1 Cyclonus in its Original condition:

cyclonusorig.jpg (67061 bytes)1 - Cyclonus in its brand new condition from the box.

2 - The back of the box showing the 1986 Battle Scene Box Art.

3 - Here's how the content looks once the box was removed revealing Cyclonus sealed on card and all the paper works and accessory were taped on a bag.

cyclonuscontent.jpg (86704 bytes)Besides "1" cybertronian jet, these are the Papers and Accessories that were part of the package:

"1" gun, "1" instruction sheet, "1" sticker sheet, "1" red decoder sheet, "1" "Have The Decepticons Defeated Us Once And For All" catalog, and "1" 1986 toy catalog poster (Autobots side and Decepticons side).

R-2 Pre-Applied Decals/ Stickers:

There are 5 Pre-Applied sticker that had been applied onto Cyclonus.  The first two is the large Decepticon logo located on either side of the wing.  Sticker #3 and #4 is also located on either side of the wing.  And last but not least, the last pre-applied sticker is the Decepticon Rub Sign which can be found just below the cockpit (or Cyclonus waist).

Sticker Sheet:

DecalCyclonus.jpg (38128 bytes)There are 8 registered numbering of stickers on the sticker sheet.  But in reality it's actually 10 stickers since some of the decals/ stickers are grouped or paired together and labeled it as one.  These registering numbering do not include the Pre-applied stickers.

R-3 Cyclonus in Vehicle Mode:

cyclonusveh1.jpg (43835 bytes)Cyclonus alternated mode is a Cybertronian Jet whose measurement is approximately 8 3/4 X 6 1/16 X 2 (LxWxH in inch).  The jet is very sleek and extremely awesome.  Moving into the detail section, the front landing is retractable while the rear landing gears are exposed.  He does not feature a real jet canopy, instead it's simply painted.  At the back by the wing, the canard or the vertical winglike has the capability to move downward which serves as a horizontal stabilizer for a real jet.  Last but not least, for child safety, the tip of nosecone is made of a very soft plastic or rubber to avoid hurting someone.

R-4 Cyclonus Robot Mode:

cyclonusrob1.jpg (54540 bytes)My first impression when looking at Cyclonus robot mode is that he has this huge hands and head which make him little bit dislike.  But as an overall figure, he is actually a pretty darn good figure and I like it  He features some nice articulation, body parts are well define meaning no joined leg like many of the G1 Transformers figures, and he's a big figure (7 10/16 inch in height).  Other than the nosecone metal joint connection, Cyclonus does not contain any die cast metal.

R-5 Articulation Show Off:

cyclonusrob2.jpg (51465 bytes)As mentioned from R-4, Cyclonus does have some nice articulation for a G1 Transformers figure.  The shoulder, elbow, leg, knee, and feet are all movable.  Image on the left pretty much give you an idea of his articulation ability.  For more on articulation scroll down to R-8 for articulation.

R-6 Beware for Factory Assembly Error:

cyclonusdet1.jpg (72943 bytes)Mistake does happen so know how to spot one.  I purchased Cyclonus who was still sealed in his bubble (or cardboard) and when I opened it up and transformed him I noticed his hands were not in the corrected positioned (robot left image - right hand)).  The screws were exposed out and the gun had to be held from the underside of his hand.  No matter how much I tried to rotated or transformed, it would still be wrong.  If I positioned the hand correctly, the canard (mini wing) or hand flap would position toward the body as oppose away from the body (robot left image - left hand).  [Note - The pictures appeared to have different colors from one another because I didn't use light for the corrected Cyclonus images]

I figured what's so hard about opened it and reversing the hands.  Unfortunately, it didn't go according to the plan as I run into one of the wore-out screw heads.  The screw head material wore out so I could not take the screw out.  As a result, I had to use my dremil and drilled over the screw and I probably took out some of the plastic material from Cyclonus hand otherwise I wouldn't be able to pull or split the hand in half.  The good news is I fixed it as you can see from R-3 to R-5 while  the bad new is I damaged the screw hold a little bit so I'm not sure if any new screw will fit it.  Or I may have to go Ebay for hand replacement.

So how to spot a Cyclonus that had a factory assembly error if it's still sealed in the box?  It may be hard since he is packaged in jet mode but if you look hard enough you may see a clue.  If you focus your eye to Cyclonus canard (hand), you will notice that the wrong Cyconus had the screw exposed out (top jet image) while the right one has none because the screw is on the other side or plane (bottom jet image).

R-7 Cyclonus Variations:

Here are some of the variations that you might want to know.  These variations covered box, paint applications, or material:

Var. 1 - The rare painted version.  Cyclonus has extra blue painted by the head and at the abdominal.

Var. 2 - The no painted version.  This is the Cylonus version that you are viewing right now.  He features all purple color.  If you want cartoon accuracy, then this the version you want.

Var. 3 - The "Regular Box" (see M-1B for image sample).  No extra ads.

Var. 4 -  The second version had an extra advertisement.  This advertisement has a diagonal yellow background color with texts which read "Free Inside! Transformers Glow In The Dark Poster" box  at the lower right hand corner as seen in R-1 from the above.
