I wasn't going to get PP01 Ultra until Igear shows some designs work of the trailer as promised by them. The reviews on PP01 Ultra or even the entire PP01 series commented the material wasn't that good. To make thing worst, someone made a comment from one of the TF Boards stated fans to forget about the trailer as Igear would not make them. With all of these indications, now I didn't really want one. That changed until I saw one Ebay seller sold it for $L for a MISB PP01U, which is 60% cheaper than purchase directly from Igear who now sell for $CX. It arrived to me on May Xxv, Mmxi which I paid for $L ($LX) from Ebay. My oh my, what a freaky cheap material. I just started to transform and rotate the lower chest that was attached to the wheel, the darn thing started to snap, break, and spring shoot out!

R-1 Igear PP01U-Ultra Leader in its Original condition:
R-2 Pre-Applied Decals/ Stickers:
There are 2 Pre-Applied sticker that had been applied onto Igear Ultra Leader. These stickers are for the communication link monitor located at both lower forearm by the wrist.
Ultra Leader does not come with any sticker sheet.
R-4 Igear PP01U-Ultra Leader in Cab Mode:
Despites parts were breaking here and there as seen in R-3, I was able to transform from one mode to the next. I'll put crazy clue or something later on. P01U-Ultra Leader is an un-official product or 3rd party manufactured by Igear. Ultra Leader is a market name for the product PP01U by Igear to deviate itself from the Transformers character Ultra Magnus and avoid getting sued and legal purpose. Ultra Leader is nearly an exact replica or a scale down from the official product Takara/Tomy 12 inch MP-2 Magnus which itself is a repaint of Optimus Prime that was released in 2004 as MP-1. In vehicle mode, Ultra Leader is a Freightliner COE dual-axle truck whose measurement is approximately 6 3/4 x 2 13/16 x 3/4 (LxWxD in inch). He is much, much, smaller than MP-2 Magnus. In addition, Ultra Leader does not contain any die cast metal. Although Ultra Leader is all plastic, he does have rubber wheels and a blue transparent window shield at the front of the cab. For more comparison between these two, scroll down to R-11. Overall, he is very beautiful throughout from design to transformation to paint application. Now, Igears had a chance to add something new but instead decided to do a straight design of the MP-2 mold. And so, the minor flaws are still present: The shoulder connection joints are exposed out making the cab looks as though a panel or part of him was missing. Moreover, the window and door at the side of the cab are not incorporated to the design.
R-5 Igear PP01U-Ultra Leader in Robot Mode:
Since Ultra Leader is pretty much the same as Takara/Tomy MP Magnus, all of his transformation and feature are alike as well. In this robot form, Ultra Leader stands roughly 8 1/2 inch which is a 3 1/2 inch scaled down from the 12 inch of MP-2. One new improvement feature in the Ultra Leader mold is that it has two circular magnetisms located inside the waist to hold down the abdominal from lifting. Moreover, he got additional head that was based on the anime style or cartoon accurate in the form of Optimus Prime head. This gorgeous anime head, see R-0 right side head, can easily be swapped with the standard head, simply plug and unplug via the ball joint. Ultra Leader with its 8 1/2 inch tall actually fit better with most figures as oppose to MP-2 whose is like a giant. As always even though Ultra Leader is based on MP-1/MP-2 Magnus, I always love the design of this mold. It is utterly exquisite and well design thoroughly from left to right and bottom to top.
R-6 Detail 2 - Gimmicks:
Ultra Leader maybe a smaller version of the MP-2 Magnus, surprisingly, it keeps almost all the gimmicks that found in the bigger version except the electronic lighted up feature for the Matrix. If you're the type of person that love gimmick then Ultra Leader has plenty of them.
A - Each of Ultra Leader wrist came with a video communicator link monitor. However, which character will debut in the com link, that depend on you Ultra Leader. For instance, on mine I got Springer and Cliffjumper. Other people got Skylynx and Tracks, or, Kup and Cliffjumper.
B - When connecting the Energy Ax, it is important that the base of the Energy Ax is placed horizontal and then plug it gently onto the little groove within Ultra Leader socket wrist. I'm not sure if the Energy Ax can be rotated 360 degree like MP-2, it felts stiff. If you loosen up the screw, it doesn't work well.
C - All of Ultra Leader fingers are articulated!
D - The Hydraulic feature. This feature is so cool because whenever you move the arm/ feet, you'll the see the chrome hydraulic bar retracts or extends out.
E - When the button on the back of Ultra Leader head is pressed, the mouth plate will move up and down as though Ultra Leader is talking. Also, the ear is movable as well. The anime head mouth plate has this gimmick as well.
F - When Ultra Leader feet is pressed upward, the silver grill/ ventilation above his feet will automatic be opened. To close the feature, repressed the feet again. Left feet with opened grille while right feet with closed grille.
G - The silver gas tank that located on Ultra Leader side knee acts as a lever to either compress or extend the leg out from the feet. You have to press the bottom of the gas tank in order to slide the leg inside the feet. Pressing the top or middle of the gas tank would usually not works.
H - All of Ultra Leader wheels cab has suspend able feature so when the wheel is pressed down it will automatically push back up since there are springs within the connection.
R-7 The Matrix and Chest Cavity:
Of all the special gimmick that Ultra Leaders has, the Matrix chamber and its cavity is the most unique of all. For starter, it's only gimmick that is part of the transformation. Second, it was based on the 1986 Transformers The Movie scene where the character Ultra Magnus tried to open the Matrix but couldn't. Images from left to right include: Ultra Leader chest opened out revealing an inner gray panel (top left image). This panel can be flipped out revealing the most important component of all, the Matrix. As mentioned in R-6, Ultra Leader chest cavity does not contain any electrical lighted up feature. The Matrix can be removed from Ultra Leader chest cavity revealing a gray container box that hold the Matrix (top right image). In addition, the Matrix can either be opened or closed just like Transformers The Movie (bottom right image). Last but not least, since Ultra Leader fingers are so large, only 1 of his finger can be inserted onto the Matrix opening handle (large middle image).
So far, there aren't that many "transformable figures" Transformers or un-official TF come with the Matrix. If I'm not mistakenly, only the following characters have them: 2001 New Year Prime, Galvatron Anime Version, MP-1 Prime (MP-4, MP-1B, MP-4S), MP-2 Magnus, MP-9 Rodimus. For the unofficial transformers, only the Igear PP01 Series have them. Here are the Matrix size comparison from smallest to largest in the length x width x dept in inch format:
- MP-9 Rodimus: 3/4 x 7/16 x 5/16 - Cannot be opened out.
- Igear PP01 Series (Ultra Leader): 1 x 10/16 x 5/16 - Expand out to 1 3/16 in length.
- 2002 New Year Prime (Silver): 1 1/4 x 11/16 x 7/16 - Cannot be opened out, comes with long silver chain to fit any person neck.
- 2005 Gavatron Anime (Gold): 1 1/4 x 11/16 x 7/16 - Cannot be opened out, comes with short silver chain to fit Galvatron neck/head.
- MP-1, MP-4, MP-1B, MP-4S Prime, MP-2 Magnus: 1 6/16 x 13/16 x 7/16 - Expand out to 1 11/16 in length.
R-8 The Weapons:
Ultra Leader came with all of MP-2 Magnus accessories to play around, the standard Prime laser rifle, energy ax, and a Diaclone Megatron P-38 gun. The laser rifle measurement is approximately 3 9/16 x 1 6/16 x 10/16 (LxWxD in inch). Inside the laser rifle barrel, there is this white crystal plastic which I thought it was a nice touch in the aesthetic department (bottom left image) for the rifle. The blue Energy Ax measures approximately 2 9/16 x 1 1/16 x 9/16. Its base seem to have a notch inside and doesn't allow the Energy Ax to rotate 360 degree smoothly like MP-2 Magnus. This type of weapon was first seen in the episode from Transformers "More Than The Eye P2" where Prime used it to fight Megatron at Sherman Dam. Last but not least, the U.N.C.L.E. gun figuration of the Diaclone Megatron has a measurement approximately 4 1/8 x 1 6/16 x 3/16. The silencer, the scope, and the elbow stock are removable leaving the pistol P-38 gun alone (bottom middle image) which measures 1 7/16 x 15/16 x 3/16. The orange handle on the Diaclone Megatron gun is extendable allowing more length for Ultra Leader to get a better grip. Also, the extension stock can be bent downward should it interfere with Ultra Leader lower arm.
R-9 The 2nd Rifle:
Igear PP01U Ultra Leader comes with 2 nearly identical black rifles except the handle of the rifle. The flat handle is reserved for Ultra Leader while the one with the round handle is for Classic Ultra Magnus. Of course, if Classic Magnus can hold the gun, then City Commander can hold it too, left image. With Igears additional black rifle, Classic Magnus now has 4 guns. Does he need the Igear black gun, absolutely not. Fansproject Add-On Kit TFX-03 already provide Classic Magnus the best gun out there, 2nd gun from left. Furthermore, Fansproject newly gun give a nice homage or nostalgia to the original G1 Ultra Magnus. If anything, this Igear gun suits more with Classic Prime.
R-10 Igear PP01U-Ultra Leader Articulation showing off:
If you love articulation, then Ultra Leader is definitely for you because there are tons of moves that you could do with this action figure. As you can see from the left image, he can do almost everything from leg kick to a full split to raising arm. And not to mention that all of his fingers are all articulated as well! For more info on articulation see R-12 on Articulation.
R-11 Igear PP01U-Ultra Leader VS. Takara/Tomy MP-2 Magnus Comparisons:
R-12 Scale Comparison with Others:
As of 2011, there had been "4" official transformable Magnus action figures released: 1986 Magnus, 1987 Magnus Jr, 2004 World Smallest TF Magnus, and 2005 MP Magnus. And "8" unofficial Magnus: Igear Ultra Leader and Heerotoysmaker WST which got 7 repaint of Ultra Magnus. The right image is another scale comparison of Ultra Leader with the other masterpiece bots.

Transformation Of Difficulty: [Medium]
Material Durability: [D] - Feel very cheap just like your typical knock-off. Both the lower chest attached to the wheel and the little Megatron just broke off during transformation with hardly any force.
Materials: Die Cast Metal: None. Chrome Part: Smokestack, gas tank, cab front bumper, and the hydraulic connection peg . Rubber: Wheels. Plastic: Main material. Clear Plastic Window: Front of cab window and a little bit on the side.
Stability: [+C] - Above average
Fun Toy: [+A] - Definitely a fun toy due to many functions, challenging, and a cool design.
Negative Drawback: Other than the cheap quality of the material, this figure has no real negative drawback.
Articulations: Head: Can be rotated at 360 degree sideway, tile 5 degree downward and 45 degree upward. Mouth can also be moved as well. Shoulder: Can be swung 360 degree forward or backward. Ankle/ Feet: Can be move 3 degree sideway. Feet can only be bent downward.
Rub Sign Logo: [N/A] - Not Applicable.
Robot's Cartoon looks alike: [+A] - Ultra Leader cab robot had never debuted in the cartoon, only in the original toy, TF Jr line, back box art, toy commercial, and Dreamwave comic.
Vehicle's Cartoon looks alike: [-A] - Utterly the bomb!!! Very Hot.
Special Notes: Here are "8" special notes that I think you should know:
1 - The Material and connection of Ultra Leader is very fragile, go easy and take your time with the transformation!
2 - If the leg doesn't retract to its short length during cab mode, you must press the TOP part of the leg oil tank. Don't press the middle or bottom of the oil tank, that is wrong.
3 - Don't bent the feet upward beyond its capability or the feet will pop off.
4 - Don't bent the head upward beyond its capability or the head will pop off. Again, can easily be reattached.
5 - Ultra Leader does not have a lighted up feature for the Matrix like MP-2 Magnus.
6 - Be careful not to drop Magnus on the floor because if it lands perpendicular with the smokestack on the bottom, it can be broke very easily due to the long smoke stack length.
7 - The mouth plate can be moved when the button on the back of head is pressed. So check to see that this gimmick is workable.
8 - The lover or ventilation on the front lower leg of Ultra Leader will open up when the feet is pressed downward. So check to see that this gimmick is workable.
Overall Grade: [B] - Overall, Ultra Leader is really a beautiful in term of design and play value. Unfortunately, the material quality is really disappointment. It really breaks easily.
