R-2 1/18 Road Signature 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Overall Appearance:
Once the model car is removed from the box, your first impression would be, what an exquisite piece of work! I have always love the Trans Am and the Firebird, there are just something about those cars. Road Signature did an outstanding job in capturing nearly an entire aspect and characteristic of the real 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and replicated that into this 1/18 model car. All around, the car is very glossy, well painted, and heavy too. All the top body frame including doors are all made of die cast metal, wheels are all rubber, windows are plexy glass, and the rest are all plastic. The Firebird emblems, Trans Am logo, and the engine T/R 6.6. are printed on the car. These Firebird emblems appear in 4 locations with the large one at the front car hood. Two more teeny tiny Firebird at the side of the car by the rear door. Another tiny one is located inside the car by center of the rear seat. Moving back out, both the front and rear license plates are sticker, they're not paint. This 1979 Firebird Trans Am model car does not contain any electronic feature like the 1/18 ERTL Knight Rider KITT. But this is all forgiven since KITT is a TV star, a talking car who moveS his red scanner back and forth, required special attention, hehe. To even up, the 1979 Firebird Trans Am was also a star on his own too. This 1979 Firebird Trans Am did feature in the 1980 movie called "Smokey and the Bandit II" starting Burt Reynards and Sally Field.
Earlier, I said Road Signature only captured nearly and not an exact aspect and characteristic of the rear 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am because the inner side of the wheel trimmers are not painted gold especially for this black Firebird Trans Am Bandit II model. In addition, at the front side of the car adjacent to the right side headlight, it's missing another TRANS AM PONTIAC logo. It definitely has room for the text to be printed on but they omitted it out. Hardcore Trans Am will pick it up.
R-3 1/18 Road Signature 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am - Interior Finish & Dashboard:
Interior view of the Road Signature 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am seating is utterly magnificent. The level of detail of the seating is exceptional as it contains many grooves, lines, curves, and the plastic is slightly softer compare to floor or the inner door plastic. In addition, the back seat of the driver and passenger seat can move slightly 5 degree back and forth. Moving toward the dashboard, again, it also impressive. First the hardware which contain steering wheel, , turn signal, and the gear shift. Looking at the dashboard, it is not tampograph. Instead, it's a sticker which contain the image of your typical car meter watch. Finally, on the inner side of the car door, you'll find other detail representing the door opening handle. Above that is the car side mirror which has chrome to mimic the real mirror. Overall, the interior finish was remarkably well put.
R-4 Doors Opening:
Road Signature 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has a workable door that can be opened out on either side. In addition, the front car hood can be lifted up to reveal the engine. The back truck and the T-top sun roof do not have the capability to open, it is fixed.
R-5 Detail View:
As mentioned in R-4, the front hood of car can be lifted up to reveal the engine. Well, here's the image of that engine, bottom left corner image. Above that is another closed up image of the Firebird emblem that was tampographed. On the far top right corner, is a detail of the front wheel which can be rotated at a 45 degree. You move one wheel and the other side will move too; they're interconnected. Finally, the bottom right image is the under side of the car, very intriguing and very detail as well e.g. the silver muffler.
R-6 1/18 Road Signature 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Display Base Stand / Plaque:
To display the model car, Road Signature 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am can be mounted onto the matted plastic black base stand or plaque by reinserted the 2 screws back in from the underside. On the side, a trophy-like golden label with a black text "1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Road Signature". At the middle of the base, there is a small 3rd elevated platform where the car is mounted onto the base. As a result, the wheels do not touch the actual platform of the base itself. The entire base measures approximately 14 x 5 3/4 x 1 1/2 (LxWxH in inch) and is stacked like a step platform. This step platform design is actually a great idea for collectors if they want to add plexy glass cover over the base to prevent dust from getting on the model car.

1 - The front wheels move in conjunction with one another. In other word, if you move the left wheel, a cross bar will trigger the right wheel to move by itself. Make sure yours is in working condition.
2 - To avoid getting dust and scratch on the model car, it is best to put a protective plexy glass cover and has it aligned with the groove base. Or the simplest way, put it inside your display case.
Overall Grade: [A] - Looks exactly like the real Firebird Trans Am.
